Why We Must Learn

We live in the most competitive, dynamic, volatile, and technologically advanced economy this planet has ever seen.

And the intuition we’re using to navigate it

is a leftover from a mechanized era,

one that valued human beings and worked them like machines.

It’s no longer relevant. It has become downright dangerous.

As a culture, we haven’t evolved to meet what’s actually in front of us,

a situation that demands levels of creativity and passion that go well beyond ordinary interests, hobbies, or even a career.

We need to be on fire!

That’s why, in a knowledge-based economy, we have to become professional learners.

Experts at becoming experts,

so we can adapt to the innovations coming at us and produce innovations of our own.

But much of our workforce is still asleep, lulled there by the false security our borders and once-abundant resources gave us.

Too many are still daydreaming about a time when you could go to school, get a job, work for 30 years, and retire.

A time when experience was the only education you needed to stay safe and relevant.

It’s a comfortable dream.

And neither you nor the organization you work for can afford to stay in it any longer.
