5.0 Identifying The Conventional Strategies Required
IDENTIFY: Part 2
To identify is to know the nature and operations of a thing.
Strategies Become Purposes
The tactic’s title can be misleading—it sounds like we’re just identifying strategies. But once a strategy or tactic impacts your ability to live a good life, it becomes part of your purpose.
Not Even Mediocre
When I started studying business, a mentor of mine named Toby Hecht taught me that “mediocrity can take you out.”
He meant many people are trying to compete in the marketplace of life, operating below mediocrity.
I’ve heard this said another way: “The basics are advanced.”
Many people arrogantly get caught up in their excellence and fail to respect the simple strategies that produce and maintain positive impacts while keeping the negatives at bay. They’re getting taken out by the common and conventional simply because they’re not paying attention to the basics.
It’s All Your Responsibility
“I got laid off.” Have you ever heard someone say that as if they were surprised or didn’t see it coming?
You are responsible for every strategy and tactic that impacts your ability to use your passion to harmoniously fulfill your financial, professional, and personal purposes.
Some strategies will require you to be the direct cause. Others will require you to monitor the performance of others, as their actions will affect your ability to produce and maintain your purposes.
For example, some people don’t see themselves as responsible for marketing and sales, as if they’d still have a job if those things dried up.
Responsibility means owning everything that influences your ability to live a good life. If it influences that ability, it belongs under your purpose.
Strategic Writing
When we write, we expand our understanding in ways that produce new thinking—thinking that leads to more powerful distinctions, which allow us to better identify and fulfill the purposes for which we were created.

Purpose: Professional
This is a “Fundamental List”. Meaning that it applies to all businesses.
These two topics (5.0 Identifying The Conventional Strategies Required and 5.1: Identifying The Unconventional Strategies Required) have started to show me the difference between conventional and unconventional strategies.
I can see the difference especially in the impacts. Conventional strategies lead to average impacts, average outcomes. But unconventional strategies, or an unconventional use of conventional strategies can lead to something else.
I can see this difference especially in the part Strategic Situational Awareness, that is contained in both of these kinds of strategies:
“All team members share information, and follow the plans” (conventional) vs. “I am able to react to changes and create the best conditions to achieve the goal.” (unconventional)
Conventional using of this strategy means that we just follow the plans (and we achieve mediocrity by this way), unconventional using of this strategy leads us to best conditions and outcomes.
