Purpose 1.0 – TACTICS
OBJECTIVES: Purpose 1.0 (Personal & Financial)
Discover and design the purpose for which you were created
Objectives vs Assignments – We do not complete assignments here. We fulfill our purposes by producing the positive impacts that allow us to live a good life and lead others to do the same.
Tactics – one-time, doable actions that produce the desired impacts of each part of a strategy. Once proven effective, they evolve into the practices that maintain those intentions over time.
Purpose: Parts and Practices
1: Identify - all of the parts of your personal, financial, and professional life so that the possibility of living a good life exists.
Think about this. Would you go to:
→ Doctors who didn’t know anatomy and physiology?
→ Lawyers who didn’t know the law?
→ How about mechanics who didn’t know the parts of a car?
→ Would you hire a house cleaner that didn’t know what parts to clean and with what ingredients?
Now let me ask you this.
Why would we not hold our roles as:
Fathers & Mothers Husbands and Wives Friends Entrepreneurs or Executives With that same amount of care?
If you don’t have the parts of life identified there is no way you’re just going to happen to get them cared for.
And it’s the getting of these things cared for that becomes your purpose.
There are roughly 40+ parts of life that make up a human's purpose.
12 Professional
12 Fundamental
12 Personal
6 Financial
I say “Roughly” because even though…
…technically we all have the same concerns, I’ve found that the way people categorize and label these concerns varies. And I don’t mean they vary by a lot — I mean they vary just a little.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you’re not that little unique snowflake your momma told you that you were.
The Four Sources of Purpose
If you were to look up the definition of the word “Purpose,” you’ll notice that it falls short of having any real purpose.
It will tell you that purpose is the reason for which something exists, which is true — but that would be like defining the color blue by saying that it is blue. It leaves us hanging.
We need to know what the reason is — not just that one exists.
And that starts by identifying the sources from which we get our sense of purpose from in the first place, of which I’ve found there are four.
1: SELF
I’d say most people think that they themselves are who comes up with the purpose for which they were created, but here’s a few problems with that.
FIRST: If you identified that which impacts your ability to live a good life by yourself, you’d likely end up with missing or incorrect parts.
We can prove that right now by the fact that you don’t have a detailed list of all of the professional, financial and personal purposes for which you were created to care for.
SECOND: Do you really think that your ideas about life and purpose are your own?
We were all born into existing standards and criteria for all of the parts of our professional, financial, and personal purposes.
And we’re all constantly swimming in these standards because of the next source of purpose: Culture!
2: CULTURE
If you come up with your purpose use culture alone — meaning you tap into sources like news, gossip, TV, social media, and common cultural conversations,
and that’s where you get your standards of care for your life and your purpose,
it will be deeply flawed, because our culture is shaped more by advertising and marketing than by dignity and discernment.
3: TRIBE
Now, if you design and discover your purpose within a real tribe—like this one here,
a group of people committed to protecting and progressing both the current and future situation of each member,
then you’d be creating your list of purposes with the benefit and insight of other ambitious people who take themselves seriously—both in their own lives and in the lives of others.
Life is bigger than what any one person can wrap their head around alone. You need different angles and perspectives to get it all handled.
With a tribe, your purpose will continuously get stronger, more complete, and more likely to be fulfilled—because now you can see your life through the lenses of those around you,
who are also pursuing an ability to use their passions to harmoniously fulfill the financial, professional and personal purposes they were created for.
4: SPIRITUALITY
Now, the fourth and final—depending on your spiritual orientation—would be God, the universe, or nothingness. AKA – Spirituality.
I’ll use God because that fits into my belief system, and I’ve found it to be the most complete and effective when it comes to living a good life.
So for me, if I identified that which impacts my ability to live a good life and identified the standards of which they must meet through scripture, prayerful meditation, and tribe,
then I can settle in knowing that my purpose is not mine, but God’s,
and with that, I know that I’m now operating with His power rather than just mine.
Now. Before we move onto the…
…next tactic of calculating the amount of money required to fulfill our purposes, I want to warn you.
At first it will feel very cold and calculated,
but once I connect that part to our spirituality,
I think you’ll find it incredibly compelling.
2: Calculate the money - required to care for all of life’s parts today and during the 30+ years of old age when you can no longer work.

3: Know what money - actually is and how it’s actually made.
When I left the SEAL Teams, I was worried…
…about everything becoming all about money.
I was concerned that my life wouldn’t feel so purpose-driven.
Until I realized how money was actually made.
Once I learned that, I realized that what I’d be doing was of far greater service to others than what I did as a SEAL.
How do we make money?
We make money by helping others people care for the very same professional, financial and personal purposes that we have.
This is why we must become experts at living a good life.
It’s so that we can lead others to do the same.
It’s what allows us to both design and communicate our offers of personal and professional help in a truly valuable way.
4: Know the pragmatics of passion - and why it's now required.
Passions are flow state-generating strategic operating practices that produce the tangible products and services that help other human beings care for what impacts their ability to live a good life at a level equal to or greater than the amount of value to others that our financial purpose dictates.
Another way to think of passion is like this .
If purpose is the “What” we’re to do,
passion is the “How” we are to do it.
Spirituality:
God – Told me what to care for to what standards.
Inevitably I’ll start to develop interest and expertise in some or all of these purposes.
He gave me gifts, which I call passion
to tell me how he wanted me to care for those things for myself and others.
And he gave me a Financial purpose to tell me how much help I’m supposed to be to others.
So when I look at that financial purpose total
I see it as my marching orders telling me
what things to help other with
and how much help I’m to be.
Passion is pragmatic:
Person A & B Making the same offer
Who’s will be accepted and why?
A’s because not only will their mood be better, but they’ll also be more sincere. They’re not faking it.
Also because they will have connected their offer to professional, financial and personal purposes so their narratives will be stronger and more valuable and meaningful.
5: Identify - the conventional and unconventional strategies required to use your passion to harmoniously fulfill the financial, professional and personal purposes you were created for.
